Not a Morning Person?

NO EXCUSES!

For the last four years, Russ Rowland has been faithfully attending his church's weekly early morning Men's Fraternity at Christ's Church of the Valley in San Dimas, California along with almost three hundred other guys.

No one in this group dares to ever complain about the challenge of having to wake up early to attend Men's Fraternity. At least they don't after they meet Russ. 22 years ago, Russ was injured in an athletic accident which destroyed his C1 and C2 vertebrae and severed his spinal cord. Today, he is a full quadriplegic, confined to a wheelchair and respirator. Yet Russ, his wife and his caregiver get up weekly at 3:00 a.m. to begin the process necessary to have Russ at his regular spot each week for Men's Fraternity.

Russ has single handily removed the "I am not a morning person" excuse from any man who might want to use it for why they don't come to Men's Fraternity. Russ says, "I never wake up in the morning and think, my God, what I am going to do today. Instead, quite often, I will go to bed at night thinking, my God, I didn't get this or that done today! I may need to get up earlier tomorrow!"

Russ has not only faithfully completed all three years of the Men's Fraternity curriculum, he is actually repeating the cycle again, taking responsibility, and inviting and bringing other men through the study. He is becoming a life coach actually mentoring half a dozen younger guys.

His wife gushes when she talks about his growth as a husband.

Climbing the Mountain of Manhood can be difficult. Russ's determination to make the journey and take others with him is far greater than the difficulty he faces.

What's Next for My Men's Fraternity?

Idea #1- Men’s Fraternity in Prisons

Churches who have been blessed by Men’s Fraternity are now stepping up and taking responsibility for introducing Men’s Fraternity to men behind prison walls. This material in now being used in numerous prisons and correctional facilities in over 25 different states. In Texas alone, over 7,000 have just completed the Quest For Authentic Manhood.

Men’s Fraternity Director, Rick Caldwell, says “this makes perfect sense for churches who have done Men’s Fraternity to now reach out to men in prison. These men have learned the definition of manhood and are now stepping up and living out that definition through their actions. They are rejecting passivity, accepting the responsibility for courageously leading incarcerated men through this material and expecting a greater reward!”

Watch the two links below to see some of the exciting things God is doing behind bars as result of Churches reaching out to share Men’s Fraternity with those in prison.

If you wish to learn more how you can mobilize a team of your men to lead Men’s Fraternity in a prison or correctional facility in your area contact one of the following people.

  1. Rick Caldwell, Director of Men’s Fraternity, 501-975-5050 or rcaldwell@fellowshipassociates.com
  2. Warren Woodham, 501-687-2929 or wwoodham@swbell.net
  3. Paul Chapman, Local and Global Missions Pastor at Fellowship Bible Church, 501-224-7171 or pchapman@fellowshiponline.com
  4. Mark Hollis, Oversees Men’s Fraternity Groups in Texas Prisons, 214-828-5356, mark.hollis@charter.net

Idea #2- Repeating Men’s Fraternity to Bring the Non-Churched Men

Why Should a Man Attend The Quest Again?

  1. For his own sake. Robert Lewis says that most men need to hear this material twice to fully process all of it. In fact he said in almost 20 years of teaching this material, everyman he knows who has done Quest twice says that he gained much more from the second time he heard it than he did the first.
  2. For the sake of other men. The first time you heard Quest you learned the definition of Authentic Manhood. Now is your chance to actually LIVE the definition that your learned. Don’t be passive and say “I’ve been there, done that.” Instead accept responsibility for the other men in your church and community that you can reach out to and encourage to join you on the journey. Courageously lead them through this material as a small group discussion leader. By taking another man through this material you can expect a greater reward, God’s reward.
  3. Because this is what Mature Men do… A Mature man does not selfishly look at his church through the eyes of a consumer and ask “what are you going to do for me this fall?” No, he looks at his church through the eyes of a servant and asks “what do you need me to do this fall?”. A Mature mans knows that by serving he is blessed much more than by just consuming.

Men's Fraternity Fall 2009 Update

MEN’S FRATERNITY FALL 2009 UPDATE

Workshops and Conferences

This summer and fall we have been busy conducting Men’s Fraternity presentations in Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, and Pennsylvania. I have also been busy coaching online with Men’s Fraternity leaders in South Africa, The Congo, Greece, Japan, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Malaysia, and China.

In addition to my travels and coaching online, one of our church members, Mauricio Anguil has made Men’s Fraternity presentations to pastors in Honduras and Christian businessmen in Bogotá, Columbia.

Men’s Fraternity and Prisons

This fall we participated in a restorative justice conference called OUT4LIFE which was held in Little Rock here at Fellowship Bible Church. We were overwhelmed by the incredible stories of how Men’s Fraternity is having a life-changing impact behind prison walls. It is estimated that Men’s Fraternity in now being used by numerous prisons over 25 different states. In Texas alone over 7,000 inmates have just complete Men’s Fraternity.

New Groups

One of the most amazing things is the number of new Men’s Fraternity groups. Currently, we are averaging 22 groups beginning the Quest for Authentic Manhood each week. If you include groups meeting in prisons and in the military we have seen over 500,000 men complete one of the Men’s Fraternity studies over the last three years.

Men’s Fraternity in the Corporate World

This summer I was able to visit Hobby Lobby headquarters in Oklahoma City and meet with their leaders as they prepared for their fall launch of a corporate men’s fraternity. They are actually doing three Men’s Fraternity meeting each week. One is designed for warehouse employees, one for their office employees and then one will be done at night as an outreach to men who may not be employed by Hobby Lobby. Please contact us today if you’d like to sponsor a Men’s Fraternity presentation or workshop in your area.

Men at The Cross

MEN AT THE CROSS

MORE THAN JUST AN EVENT

Men's Fraternity is a process, not just an event. Perhaps that is one of the key reasons that well over 16,000 churches have really connected with both it’s content and approach. My dear friend Joe White and his Men At The Cross team have developed a Men’s event that’s true purpose is to not just be an event but be a catalytic event that starts a process in men’s lives.

We are excited about continuing our partnership with Joe White and the Men at the Cross Conferences that are taking place around the country. These events have been a huge blessing to the Men's Fraternity core leaders that have chosen to participate in them. Likewise, Men at the Cross has greatly appreciated the help they have received from Men's Fraternity leadership teams who have pitched in to successfully organize and promote these gatherings.

I have been close friends with Joe White for three decades, and I truly believe that the core leaders of your Men's Fraternity will greatly benefit from the one-to-one discipleship training provided at this event. I think that having a group of your men prepared to become one-to-one disciple makers could really help you in following up with men who come to Christ during your Men's Fraternity season.

I am attaching a link to the Men at the Cross website in hopes that you will check out this great opportunity that will be coming somewhere near you in the weeks or months ahead.

http://www.menatthecross.org/Mens%20Fraternity.aspx

During the Men at the Cross conference, there will also be a breakfast for pastors and men's ministry leaders to meet with Rick Caldwell, the Global Director of Men's Fraternity and learn how they can begin a Men's Fraternity.

I know you are busy but I do hope you will take time to check out the link above and pray about taking full advantage of this great opportunity. I will deeply appreciate anything you can do to help suport the upcoming Men at the Cross Conference in your area. It’s not just another event. It is an event that could begin a process that could really begin a movement!

Blessings to you,

Robert Lewis

Robert Lewis introduces EXPLORE, a new evangelism training video study at Men's Fraternity Workshop!

Robert Lewis introduces EXPLORE, a new evangelism training video study at Men's Fraternity Workshop!

Founder of Men’s Fraternity, Robert Lewis introduced EXPLORE, his latest video training study on May 6, 2009 in Little Rock at a Men’s Fraternity Conference attended by 120 pastors and men’s ministry leaders from 26 states and two foreign countries.  Rick Caldwell, the Global director of Men’s Fraternity said that he was excited about this new resource for three reasons.
  1. Many churches who do Men’s Fraternity have been asking for something like EXPLORE to help them have a more evangelistic edge. This five week training could really prepare your men to be ready to help their non-churched friends that they invite to Men’s Fraternity with them, to really fully understand and respond to the gospel.
  2. Since Explore is designed for both men and women this is a great opportunity for men who have completed Men’s Fraternity to demonstrate leadership by inviting their wife to join them in this study
  3. Explore is a five week training experience that can help men who have completed Men’s Fraternity to live out the definition of manhood that they learned in. It gives them a chance to accept responsibility for sharing Christ with their friends and courageously leading them through that process.
